In partnership with Oscar Fernandez, we extend our field-based salt tectonics course portfolio to the spectacular Austrian landscape, more specifically to the Central Northern Calcareous Alps, in the Salzburg Region.

Historically, this region has been an important salt mining province since the Bronze Age. Throughout millennia, salt has played a central role in the region's economy, culture, politics and even religion. With Hallstatt in its centre, many dissolution mining breakthroughs and the understanding of geological processes associated with salt have been established and developed here, and therefore is an excellent training ground to further understand salt tectonic processes.
