Praia de Carcavelos, Cascais, Portugal 2021
Did you know that there is a large accumulation of oysters fossils in Carcavelos Beach that was deposited approximately 20 Millions years ago (lower Burdigalian) during an epoch called Miocene?
The large oysters were dragged alive from the estuarine during a massive flood event to the sea where where buried alive (valves are closed).
This event was so massive that the same unit with millions of oysters extends all the way to Lisbon where it is often while doing buildings foundation.
